Hey there, loving the idea of the site. As a UX expert, I would just like to pose a few things.

The categories should be navigable via the primary nav. Right now its a bit of a pain to go to the homepage and then click on a category and filter down from there. Maybe that is the idea with the "add gear" dropdown in the nav, but currently it only shows turntable. under that dropdown.

Im not sure how your search is built but the results are a little wonky. For instance, searching for "op-1" does show the Teenage Engineering OP-1 but its ~15th result.

Hi, thanks for the observations! We are continually improving the site, and will take your points into account for future updates.

Thanks for the feedback. Do you mean something like an "Explore" link in the header like Discogs has?

Search... we don't talk about search. It's too hard. Just kidding, thanks for that.

Hi Nik,
is it possible to have the photos on the lists when we're in a Mark Page?
EX: I click on Korg and I'll see all Korg gears list with little photo preview (on left).

Thanks & Regards

Yeh I agree that would be good, those pages look a bit bare now compared to the front / browse pages.

Hey dib909, I'm not quite sure what you mean by that. Do you mean when you're on the Korg page you want to see the big photos instead of the small ones?

thanks

Ahh, I see what you mean. I should have looked at the page first :) The images are gone. We'll get them on on there.

;) yes! Thanks!

Hi Nik,
in addition to photos can you add a button in "Maker page" for alphabetic order?

Thanks & Regards

Yup, we'll add that to the list, thanks!

Hi nik,
can we add a check before SAVE?
If "gearname" exist (search index per Maker) show popup "gear already exist"
else save gear

Can be a solution to leave out duplicates?
Thanks

Yes we'd like to do that, but that is a reasonable amount of development work for us. That's why we added the warning to the 'Model' field advising people to look for the item before adding it, as a stopgap measure in the meantime! Thanks, and we'll keep working toward improving this for sure.

Hi Nik,
have you a ultimately rule about "colours"?

Soultion1:
Use the colour with ( ) in title
http://www.gearogs.com/gear/3565-Audio-Technica-Sound-Burger-Red

Solution2:
Use the colour in "Further Information"
Problem -> on gear list we'll se same title name (like duplicates). Colour info not visible at first sight.

Thanks & Regards

Hi dib909. The color or other differentiating factor I think is best placed in the 'Further Definition' part of the 'Function' section. This ties in with how we use the free text field on Discogs https://www.discogs.com/help/submission-guidelines-release-format.html#Format

Problem -> on gear list we'll se same title name (like duplicates). Colour info not visible at first sight.

In this example, the image should help. But yes, for the future, we could have the 'Further Definition' listed on those pages as well.

Hi Nik
is it possible to remove case sensitive order?
Ex: If I Add:

TECHNICS SL-1210
TECHNICS SL-2000
TECHNICS sl-1250 <- lowercase

TECHNICS sl-1250 (lowercase) should be automatically added after TECHNICS SL-1210 and not at the end of the list.

sorry for my example...I hope it's clear : /
Regards

Thanks, your example is perfectly clear. I'll look into that and see what we can do!

Hi,
I've added some Slipmats
https://www.gearogs.com/maker/3088-Ortofon?function=Turntable+Accessory
with Function "Turntable Accessory"..
Could be nice insert a new Function "Turntable Slipmats" ?

Regards

Hi - I think you could add that into the "Further Definition" at the moment. I'd not want the 'Function' list to get overloaded, as then usability will go down then. Does that work for you?

ok,
Function "Turntable Accessory"
Further Definition: "Slipmats"
Form Factor "Part"

Regards

An update on this, we can't change this right now, it is going to take a reasonable amount of work, and we have other priorities like making the submission form find duplicates before they are submitted. Will keep it in mind for the future though, thanks!

OK yes, duplicates are a priority 1 ;)

Regards!

We're adding Slipmats? Can't say I agree with this.

they are as much a kind of gear as speaker wires.

Hi Nik,
it would be nice a "Makers" search by first letter... : )
Ex:
All makers with first letter "A" or "B" and so on!

Thanks & Regards

Yeh that could be cool. Thing is at the moment there are only 25 pages of makers https://www.gearogs.com/browse/maker so I guess the need isn't that strong at the moment, what were you trying to do when you noticed you wanted that feature?

Hi Nik,
can you add a drill down menu for Country?
There are some entry like:

usa
USA
U.S.A
United States
UnitedStates
....

Maybe with a drill for country will be more easy.

Thanks

Hi
Liking the idea of a database but this is such a complex area and whilst I no expert I've been interested in Hifi for over 40 years so have accumulated quite a bit of knowledge. Enough knowledge to spot errors such as the Amplifier section which has equipment in totally the wrong categories. There is so much vintage equipment that this is a monumental project particularly if a lot of time is taken up correcting others errors. Presumably you are aware that there is a very extensive and accurate databases at Hifi Engine and Vinyl Engine. I don't see the point in reproducing that information but there is probably merit in some collaboration? If Geargogs was just a list of models by manufacturer and equipment type then that can be hyper linked to the other specialist sites. Geargogs can fulfill the role of a simplified collectors database and selling forum. Tim

Singlemania - thanks for your feedback!

the Amplifier section which has equipment in totally the wrong categories. There is so much vintage equipment that this is a monumental project particularly if a lot of time is taken up correcting others errors

The database is user built, so you are welcome to correct any errors. This is the same as the way we built Discogs, and there have 8.3 million releases catalogued, and growing at 4000 a day. Errors are a totally acceptable part of the process. People seeing and correcting those errors is how the database improves.

I would be interested in the specific error you are seeing in 'amplifiers'.

Presumably you are aware that there is a very extensive and accurate databases at Hifi Engine and Vinyl Engine.

Yup we are aware of that. But I think the Discogs/Gearogs way is different enough to warrant doing. For example, we are a user built database. We also are cataloguing not only turntables and hi-fi, but studio equipment and electronic musical instruments.

If Geargogs was just a list of models by manufacturer and equipment type then that can be hyper linked to the other specialist sites.

Ultimately, it will be up to the community to decide what the database is useful for and how much information to enter. There is a fairly minimal requirements for a basic entry (Maker, Model, Function).

Hi Nik, can you add a drill down menu for Country?

Hi dib909! Yes we can do that at some point I think, I can see an advantage there as sometimes people enter extraneous things into that field, or use different names for the same place (USA, US, America etc). I can't say exactly when we can update things, however. Do feel free to edit entries to make the countries conform. Ideally, it would be countries only (just USA, not Texas, USA, for example).
