Notes The M500 'Micro-Preset' monosynth and its near-identical twin the M500SP (which was an M500 with a 600mW amplifier and a 10cm speaker mounted inside the underside of the case) were cheap and flimsy, with lightweight keyboards and rudimentary controls. Nevertheless, the 30 preset voices they produced were recognisably 'Korg' sounds, so the M500s became popular with players who wanted synth sounds without the hassle of learning how to use a synth. It achieved brief notoriety at the turn of the 1980s when Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark used one, multitracking it and playing it through numerous effects and amplifiers to create a wide range of sounds.
